DZD ATEX DUST – explosion-proof axial roof fans for explosive dust atmospheres, ≤6510 m³/h

DZD ATEX DUST – explosion-proof axial roof fans

DZD Ex t series axial roof fans with horizontal air discharge are designed for potentially explosive atmospheres containing combustible dust. The fans are intended for dust hazardous areas classified as Zones 21 and 22, subject to the certification and marking of the specific model.

The fans are designed for combustible dust atmospheres of Groups IIIA and IIIB. The series covers nominal sizes from 250 to 600 mm, with a maximum airflow of 6510 m³/h.

Applications

  • extracting air from premises where combustible dust-air mixtures may occur
  • installation on building roofs
  • direct air extraction or connection to ductwork
  • horizontal air discharge
  • use in hazardous dust areas according to the ATEX marking of the specific model

Construction

  • axial impeller made of electrically conductive plastic
  • mounting base, inlet nozzle and rain protection hood made of galvanised sheet steel

Operating conditions

The fans are designed for combustible dust atmospheres whose classification and operating conditions comply with the ATEX marking of the specific equipment. The manufacturer indicates a clean-air temperature range of −20 °C to +60 °C. The permissible conditions and surface temperature marking of each model must be checked against its documentation.

DZD ATEX DUST – installation instructions

Installation location

DZD Ex t fans are installed on building roofs with horizontal air discharge. They can be used for direct air extraction or in systems connected to ductwork.

The fan mounting base must be selected according to the roof structure, fan size and manufacturer's mounting dimensions.

Mounting accessories

  • SO – bases for flat roofs
  • SOWT – bases for corrugated and trapezoidal roofs
  • SDS – bases for pitched roofs
  • SZ – intermediate bases
  • ELA Ex – flexible connectors
  • SG – protective grilles
  • SD – silencers

Electrical connection and motor protection

The fans are equipped with three-phase asynchronous motors incorporating PTC thermistors in their windings. The motor is connected via a 1.7 m cable and a pre-wired explosion-protected terminal box.

The PTC thermistors must be connected to an appropriate motor temperature monitoring device in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. MVS6 and TMS protection devices are available.

Safety and commissioning

  • installation and electrical connection must be carried out by qualified personnel
  • the ATEX category, dust group and temperature marking of the specific model must be checked before installation
  • the fan must be securely fixed to a mounting base suitable for the roof structure
  • electrical connection, earthing and protection devices must comply with the manufacturer's documentation and the requirements applicable to explosive dust atmospheres
  • before commissioning, check that the impeller rotates freely and verify airflow direction and protective device operation
  • maintenance must only be performed after safely disconnecting the electrical supply and preventing unexpected start-up
